Helen O’Brien

Helen is a solicitor in private practice since late 1970’s with qualifications and a depth of experience in many diverse areas, all of which she deploys to assist our clients in their private client and commercial undertakings. Her relevant experience over 40 years affords Helen the skills needed to approach clients and her advice to them with supportive understanding, measure, and balance.

• An accredited civil and commercial mediator
• Long-term advisor to many private companies and their boards, to family trusts, and their decision-making trustees, both professional and private.
• A commercial partner in a five-partner provincial law firm until 2002, she opened her own practice, Bowe O’Brien Solicitors, in Waterford and now since December 2025, serves as an active consultant solicitor to Parker Law.
• Appointed by the President of the High Court to, and chaired numerous divisions of, the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, also a member of its successor, the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal from which she retired to now act as a Legal Assessor to that Tribunal
• Three decades of High Court experience, with and without Counsel, as an adoption legal advisor, to Tusla up to 2017.
• Served as a 3-year term member of the Board of the South South-West Hospital Group until November 2021 covering all HSE hospitals across South Munster from Kerry to Waterford, – recommending action both to the Group’s executive and to the Minster for Health.
• Other appointments include: former member of statutory determination panel under Stock Exchange Act 1995 and Investment Intermediaries Act 1985, a panel member of Chartered Accountants Ireland Legal Enquiries Service and of the panel  from which Complaints Committees were convened for misconduct investigations of Personal Insolvency Practitioners.
• Current emphasis on commercial and governance advice to company directors and business people and on personal advice and varied services to private clients as regards their property, Wills and future planning for their families and dependants.
